Let's keep the kitchens clean!

Dishwasher

The dishwasher can be found in the Snack Kitchen. It uses way less water and space than manual cleaning, so please use it for most dishes.

What not to put in

• Don't put wooden things in the dishwasher! The wood will absorb the hot water, swell and break.
• Don't put sharp knives in the dishwasher!
• Don't put fragile glasses in the dishwasher! They will collide and break.
• Don't put big items in the dishwasher! Pots, pans and bowls are better cleaned by hand as they take up too much space in the machine.
• Don't put small solid things (like e.g. seeds, pieces of egg shells, coffee beans) in the machine as they can get stuck inside and cause severe errors.

How to put things in

• There are rotating devices inside the dishwasher, which are necessary to evenly distribute the water, which in the end cleans everything. If rotation is blocked, narrow items are placed on the far ends of the cleaning area, or the filter down below is full of dirt, there is no way that cleanliness can be achieved.
• Try and fit as many items as reasonable to still get them clean.
• Please sort the cutlery by kind as it makes the emptying super fast.

How to start it

Immediately

• There is a jar with dishwasher detergent poweder right on top of the machine, slightly hidden below the table.
• Use the spoon inside, put 15ml of detergent in the appropriate space in the dishwasher and close the lid
• Close the dishwasher.
• Press 'Ein' and see the lights turn on.
• Set to highlighted program and press 'Start'.

The small dots around Spar 45° are the highlighting for the recommended program.

Program it for a future run

If you make everything ready and then press the button Startvorwahl the dishwasher lets you specify a number of hours that will need to pass until it will start. This way you can e.g. fill the dishwasher in the evening and let it run in the morning to make use of solar energy. If you find the dishwasher in this state (where it displays something like 8 hrs) please don't change it to run immediately!

How to put things out

• You can either remove the items one by one or take the whole tiers out, carry them to the Main Kitchen, empty them and put them back.

Troubleshooting

If the dishwasher stops working it might be an issue that you can fix by consulting its service manual.

Kitchen sink

Everything that shouldn't go into the dishwasher can be cleaned in the kitchen sink.

Try and use as little water and soap as possible while still getting the stuff clean. Here's some tips on that:

• put a bowl in the sink instead of filling it all with water
• wash the less dirty things first, while the dirtier ones soak
• fill the warm, soapy water from one pot into the other to rub them with, then rinse in the end

We have a big drying rack in the kitchen in which the washed dishes can sit until they're dry.

Rinse immediately

To avoid unnecessary and annoying work, please take care to immediately rinse the following items after usage:

• the citrus press
• the garlic press
• the grater
• the blender
• the salad centrifuge
• all sieves
• all non-greasy, basically clean items

The last point is e.g. about bowls that only held cut veggies during cooking.
