:coffee: Hot Drinks

There are multiple ways to prepare hot drinks at Kanthaus. Here is how to go about them:

Tea and coffee (Needs to be updated!)

  • In the middle of the used dishes shelf you'll normally find the empty teapots. If we have already used tea that can be recycled it will also be stored here.
  • Tea leaves, tea bags, herbs and coffee can be found in the cabinet on the other side of the door to the living room.
  • Full teapots should be placed on top of the before-mentioned cabinet.

Boiling water

  • It's highly appreciated to make tea for many people! Especially in the morning it makes sense to boil bigger amounts of water. It's the privilege of the person preparing the hot drinks to choose which kind will be made.
  • Use a big pot for bigger amounts of water and make sure to put the lid on. For smaller amounts the electric kettle is fine.
  • Please don't boil more water than you need – measuring can help!

Brewing tea

  • Please economize tea!
    • The used tea in the used dishes shelf can be used again.
    • One fresh teabag is more than enough for one liter of water, especially if you let it sit for a while.
  • Please don't put loose tea directly into the teapots!
    • We have various tea sieves that can be put into the pot you boiled the water in. Just let the tea sit there and refill it afterwards.
    • If you just want to make 1 liter you can use a spare teapot and one of the small round tea strainers, which almost fit directly into the thermoses but then are slightly too big. Let the tea sit in that other teapot and then refill into a thermos.
  • Please label tea!
    • Take the pen attached to the wall in the snack kitchen and write directly on the thermos the kind of tea inside.

      Black tea

  • 1st flush: 3 minutes maximum if you want to reuse the teabag
  • 2nd flush: 5-8 minutes maximum, otherwise the tea will taste bitter
  • 3rd flush: not recommended for the ratio 1 teabag per 1 liter of water

    Green tea

  • 1st flush: 2 minutes
  • 2nd flush: 5 minutes
  • 3rd flush: 10 minutes

    Fruit infusion

  • 1st flush: 5 minutes
  • 2nd flush: 8 minutes
  • 3rd flush: not recommended for the ratio 1 teabag per 1 liter of water
  • feel free to add some sugar or syrup

    Herbal tea

  • You can simply leave the teabag in if you don't plan on reusing it
  • If you want to reuse it however go like this:
    • 1st flush: 5 minutes
    • 2nd flush: 8 minutes
    • 3rd flush: not recommended for the ratio 1 teabag per 1 liter of water

Brewing coffee

  • I, Janina, never drink coffee, so someone else should write this section... Maybe Nick or Matthias? :)
